How Do You Calculate Your Ascendant?

Unlike your Sun sign, your Ascendant cannot be determined simply from your birthday.

You need three pieces of information:

1. Your date of birth

2. Your exact birth time

3. Your birthplace

The exact time matters because the Ascendant changes relatively quickly, approximately every two hours, although the exact duration varies depending on latitude and other astronomical factors.

Even a difference of 10–20 minutes can sometimes matter if you were born close to a sign boundary.

The easiest way

Use a reputable birth chart calculator and enter:

• your full date of birth
• your exact birth time
• your city and country of birth

The calculator will give you your Rising Sign / Ascendant.

For the most accurate result, use the time recorded on your birth certificate whenever possible.

If you don’t know your exact birth time, your Ascendant may be uncertain.
